GSA Dinner

Dear GSA members,

I hope this note finds you all well. Hopefully, you were able to enjoy the short break and feel recharged for the Summer semester. For those of you who are graduating, I send my congratulations and best wishes in your future endeavors.

Those of you who are still around, I would like to invite for one more GSA dinner, before GSA goes into “summer recess,” to honor our dear James Greening for his wonderful job this past year  as both GSA President and Grants Committee Chair. Well done James!

Please join us for this meaningful dinner on Thursday, May 23rd at 6:30 PM at Saya Restaurant located at 1030 Kauffman Road, Fairborn, OH 45324.

As always, kindly RSVP for the purpose of making reservations.

I look forward to seeing you on the 23rd!

Thank you,

Alexandrina

President, Graduate Student Assembly

GSA Annual Membership Award

Please congratulate Triet Truong (2013 Graduate Student Assembly Members’ Choice) and Crystal Whetstone (2013 Graduate Student Assembly President’s Choice) for being the recent recipients of the 1st Annual GSA Exceptional Performance Award in recognition of their momentum, strength, and results throughout the year.

IMPORTANT – GSA UPDATES!!!

Over this past year, GSA has grown significantly in both membership and presence, and GSA could not have done that without the help of all of you!  As the semester comes to a close, there are several important items to address, so quickly look through the following items to be updated on the current status of GSA!
1) Congratulations to the April GSA Member of the Month: Ahmed Obeidat!  Ahmed has worked diligently for GSA and has been the chair for the Research Day event coming up on May 24th (more info coming soon on this!).  Congrats to you, Ahmed, for all of your hard work.
2) Tomorrow (Thursday, March 28th) is the GSA Dinner at Cedar Land Restaurant beginning at 6:30pm.  If interested, let Alexandrina Gomes know!
3) Next Monday, April 1st, is the GSA Job Search and CV Brown Bag featuring the awesome Dr. Melissa Gruys.  The event is from 11:30 to 1pm in Rike Hall, Room 020.  You don’t want to miss this!  RSVP is required and space is limited, so email Crystal Whetstone (whetstone.10@wright.edu) right now to reserve your spot!
4) I would like to sincerely congratulate the newly elected GSA officers for the 2013-2014 academic year.  They are:
      President – Alexandrina Gomes
      Vice-President – Arathi Paluri
      Treasurer – Moner Ragas
Grant Chair – Michael Tyler II
GSA will be in great hands next year, and I just know GSA will continue to grow in all areas and be more successful than ever before!  I sincerely thank these excellent members and all of those willing to serve and run for officer positions!  GSA is as great as it is thanks to all of you!
5) The last GSA meeting will be April 16th starting at 6pm in the Student Union Cambiar Room (153).  There will be grant presentations (which are always very interesting), a brainstorming session, and an officer transition meeting.  All OFFICERS are required to be at this meeting, and if you cannot attend, please let James know.  I would like to have a record number of members at this meeting, so please plan on joining us to say goodbye to this academic year and to bring in the new one with big smiles and ideas!
Thanks for your time, and I look forward to seeing all of you at these events very soon!
Sincerely,
Your President for one more month!
James

1 April 2013 Round Table Flyer

WHAT: Job Search and Resume/Vitae Brown Bag Workshop

WHEN: Monday, April 1, 2013 ~ 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Rike Hall Room 020 (in the basement)

WHY: To give yourself the edge in your job search!

What will make a positive impression on prospective employers?  How will a prospective employer remember you among all the applicants?  Want to gain tips on having a successful job search?  Come to this workshop – in which Dr. Melissa Gruys, Ph.D. in Human Resources and Industrial Relations and Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR), will provide insight on resumes/vitae and also on job search more broadly.  Bring a few copies of your current resume (even if it is not complete or extremely polished), as we will spend the last half hour on how to make improvements to those documents.  Feel free to come and go when you need to (e.g., you have to leave for class).  RSVP required—email Crystal Whetstone (whetstone.10@wright.edu).

*This event is for Graduate Student Assembly Members only.  If you are not a GSA member but you are a Wright State University Graduate or Undergraduate student and would like to attend, please RSVP to Crystal Whetstone (whetstone.10@wright.edu) and she will send you details on becoming a member for free.  It is a simple process and well worth it!
